Raoul Millais 1900-1999, a remarkable man from a remarkable family. His life spanned the entire 20th century. Raoul only ever had four one man shows in his long life at The Fine Arts Society of 1928 and 1936, and the Tryon Gallery in 1973 and 1982.
Heredity had dealt Raoul a strong hand, his talents were handed down by his grandfather Sir John Millais, one of the founders of the Pre-Raphaelite movement and his father John Guile Millais, naturalist, big game hunter, explorer, gardener, and artist.
Raoul was a sportsman and a friend of the Royal family. His passion was sporting art at which he excelled. His works rarely come onto the market which makes this collection so special.
Alongside this, we are also exhibiting a very special selection of works we name ' The Sunley Collection', featuring paintings by Charles Martin Powell, Alfred Grenfell Haigh, and Douglas Anderson.
