Terence Gilbert began his formal artistic training at Camberwell Art School, although his father’s access as a National Gallery warden allowed him to gain valuable experience studying the techniques of the Old Masters. He began working in the competitive world of advertising as a freelance illustrator, before deciding to devote himself entirely to Fine Art.
Gilbert’s range of work is remarkable. He is well known for his equestrian portraits, the most significant being a painting of HM The Queen and President Reagan riding at Windsor later presented to the President at the White House and a portrait of HM King Hussain of Jordan painted at Sandhurst.
Our much admired former chairman Sir Peter O’Sullevan was an enormous admirer of Gilbert. Peter had the sharpest of eyes and it was Gilbert’s sheer professionalism and by his multiple artistic skills that so endeared him to Peter.
